Latest fire update (27.6.19)

A week removed from the fire at Rosebud Secondary College and the Southern Peninsula Basketball Association continues to work together through the aftermath.

The fire has caused the anticipated disruption, however, the Administration team at the SPBA can assure you that we have been working tirelessly to minimise the after effects of the event on our community.

Losing access to two courts has reduced our court space by 40%, although, we’ve done everything we can to rectify this situation.  Every suitable venue from Rye to Frankston has been contacted about court availability, unfortunately, it is scarce.

Below is a list of adjustments made by the SPBA in order to continue to fit in as much of our competitions and programs as possible;

    • Dromana Primary is now being used four nights of the week, previously it was being used for four hours per week
    • 9:45pm time slots on Monday nights have been added in order to fit games in
    • Unfortunately, we have to rotate through cancelling divisions that play on Monday nights
    • Wednesday night games are now starting earlier than previously
    • A single game at 9:45 on a Wednesday night has been added, no team has been fixtured to play anymore than 1 game at this time
    • Tuesday nights will see teams play 8:30 games. All teams have been fixtured to play at least 1 x 8:30 game, whilst some have been fixtured to play 2
    • BigV teams are training out of Langwarrin as well as The Peninsula School, whilst some of their sessions have been cancelled until Rosebud is again operational
    • BigV games have been moved to Dromana Secondary
    • VJBL teams are training out of Dromana Primary, Dromana Secondary and Padua Rosebud
    • Games will start as late as 3:15pm on Saturday’s
    • Netball is now unable to run it’s Tuesday night competition
    • A number of casual employees have lost shifts

The SPBA fully understands and appreciates that some of the changes are far less than ideal, we trust that our community appreciates that we’ve done the very best we can to manage this situation.

We take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to our community for their cooperation, Padua College in Rosebud, Dromana Primary, The Peninsula School and Frankston and District Basketball Association for assisting us during this period.

We will continue to provide our community with updates as they come to hand.

Regards
